To be cynical

I’ve searched for an antidote to the pragmatic cynicism from a lot of people in the art market, so here I’m going to celebrate the simple joy of colour by reminding myself of a girlfriend who used to decorate envelopes, containing all the joys of Spring. The form remains semi-abstract, naive and vibrant in colour palette. I have rejected any functional purpose of the postal nature of the envelopes, they contain or conceal nothing, but carry all the fun of life. They are not decorated expensive objects, they are neither satirical or critical or ironic. They remind us that that life is in colour, especially if we don’t arm ourselves with anything other than the celebration of it. It certainly does not require preconceptions about whether it is superficial or demand heavy, or the answer to all ones prayers.
