AI tech is advanced airbrushed poison to human imperfection and enlightenment. If you impose the frame and not emphasise what’s inside it, Pandora’s Box will open, and you will not be prepared for the unleashing of the consequences. Ok, frame aside then… but if you delimit by form, exhaust the alternatives you impose, is at best a distraction but at worst a non-sequitur justification of the rigid and fixed figurative and the abstract as faux boundaries and then the whole criteria of Art, Science and Social Science advances from the 1980s Cold War onwards, you will lose. Then the multiverse of visual human cultural expression will be exposed as stuck in the 1980s! (or at least part of it ). So, you will no longer represent Art per se! You can’t just put Art on ice whilst putting Painting in the morgue!

You've missed that 21st century Painting is joined-up with modernism like its representational, the optical illusion of our day! Social media ‘split screens’ etc. on your tablet, TV, laptop etc.) and the image of analogue visual info will, no, has already gone forever! There’s no simple present or past tense of Painting without it becoming digitalized in our day-to-day reality!' Welcome to Surrealism of the 21st century that is being transcribed by literal representation let alone more advanced image making under your noses. There is no need to place for 1930s style romantic/heroic agendas of an ideological and global hate/war of Fascism and Stalinism today! It is not being highjacked by politics and yet you've missed it! Consign that to the past! A Painting humanism, one of caution and careful revising by self-expression of an army of self-taught individuals putting Paint to canvas have found a way to fight by canvas being part of a medium that has been underrepresented and unrepresented in today’s Art world, centralised and conforming to decisions that were made eons ago that need upgrading!!

Sustainability by adaptation is the better part of valour today and the taking up of arms against a sea of troubles, but by opposing them we could end the last restraint on visual Art. But there is a British quality here, one of reserve and stoicism even one of incrementalism even of a conservative with a small ‘c’ that has begun a reconstruction of Painting by resistance to non-Paint Art and not just the manifestation of their own work on canvas? It has broken-out in to the British community and is a rebel at large that has been caused by years of being hemmed-in by being overlooked, rejected and conspired against and will continue to resist micro-managed overbearing condescension from TATT, but to over-stretch and snap a centralised lock by TATT that has grown too used to ‘itself’ over the years! Furthermore, Painters would like to be a blueprint for other media breaking of the centralised shackles of the Art system of college to gallery to museum to the Art market, then purchase, sale and resale etc ad nauseum.

The overbearing stipulation of the finite frame barely intrudes on the ‘unlimited space” within it that beckons every Painter. Timorous or belligerent, diffuse or cramming it full of all of life in one moment of the multiverse excites infinite possibilities of our image-making universe; it is like the Universe’ itself…. forever expanding! This can’t be experienced in one life or mortal coil of each generation, or even in all of the human story, so there are no pedestals or lowest rung to put Painters on, because there is no hiding place for any of us, but there is all the risk in every bush stroke to either cock it up or get away with it, whilst always being judged and being subjected to the wrath or appreciation of all! So, if we take-on this task, putting our heads above the parapet, those guys who underestimate it deserve to have the spot put back on them too!

But there is no eternal return to the other versions of modernism, there’s no global shadow of terror like the 1930's just the fear of one spreading from Ukraine or Gaza…. So don’t deride us as ‘yesterday’s locusts’ but recognise when you see the eternal telescope today and the microscope of tomorrow! We aren’t a plague, where just grazers on a prairie free to move at our own pace independent and coexistent with all the other ‘wildlife’ that reinvigorate and add cultural nutrients whenever we move on.

To Painters

Don’t get complacent, don’t hold your breath just hold-on to your brush! No overkill, no reverse psychology, no ideological over commitments. This is a new era for Painting from an ancient tradition whose longevity has also permeated the 300 years of 3 stages or versions of modernism! That is a landscape itself that stretches the ancient and the modern quantum leaps and emerges as a Surreal collision of paradox, inconsistency and recoil as well as cutting edge creativity. Here is the collision of improvised reaction and the random, sometimes an image obliqueness in an immense immersion pirouetted on each brushstroke that can either blunder its way forward or pragmatically take time to limit the damage or explore the originality with or without fear! I never thought I could get some ballet into this…. but I guess I shouldn’t have tried! But Painters are both Guardians of our ancestry and yet image-makers of Paint taken from the rock or soil in our back yard and made into colour and mark-making. We are one source of social display that has been unfiltered (some may think that 20™ century modernist Paintings were reckless and too unfiltered. And that is why TATT intervened in the 80s.????) and contrived. But it is legacy (whether or not it was wayward or not) is one of free-range Art, but not controlled by any one individual, just by Artists who had something in common, and we should encourage an absence of fencing in. We should prepare for climate changing destruction of our seas and rivers etc, so that we can Paint what we used to celebrate when they existed, whilst leisure and pleasure that derives activity whilst the global economy fully is one of automation. Painting will be resistance and a visual text to pass down the generations, our non-verbal visual history telling! But Painting will be a cyclical reminder of human choice and a pendulum of freedom by human flaw and failure to perfect by our human deviation and mutation regained! Our Painting regained!! Reconnect with both locked down and protected from external trials and tribulations, from eye to hand to brush to paint, to canvas is out blueprint of future proofing our humanity for Painters cultural knowledge too Why is this so important? Because we are a part of a chain of visual cross-pollination, and you are the spirit of all Art enterprise. We are the antidote to over intrusive ‘structuralism (pre, post blah, blah, blah, ad infinitum.) just as we are the antidote to automation, and we seek only a freedom to roam, and hopefully we can give good reason for it!
