Freedom (2)

Freedom to and freedom against, will always be the keystone of every challenge to the status quo against TATT. Indeed, Painters have been very fortuitous when exiled from mainstream Art elite by 1985, in fact it allowed 'the medium' to not be overlooked whilst it found the pressure point and departure angle to free itself from centralised control and get on with the job of self-invention. Was it ever 'burnt-out' or in a form cul-de-sac? Of course not ! Painting had been given the full panorama to spread its wings and inadvertently became the unacknowledged avant-garde ! 'The medium' could let formal issues absent themselves at a version of an invisibility point, a dustbin put out with all the trash !

This resurrection of the medium provides one of the first examples of recovery from being expelled from TATT to every other Art medium, and it also revealed that paradoxically Conceptual Art and tech based Art did not have the back and front story for a medium like Painting to cope with such marginalization. It also establishes that episodically Painting is firstly, not just the rebel Art but also the medium that will be out of favour equally sporadically and yet could spend that time re-birthing Art generally !

Sequence

All Art requires validation as a means of successful communication. There are ways to bump start .original painting, by accepting a variation of a sequence. It will need migration from your hitherto practice and yet renew and depart. Resistance, collision, confrontation, refraction,, reduction or magnification, to unhappy accident, to the heterogenious, the improvisation, to the tangental, the serendipitous, to the road of happy accident and originality !! This is self experimentation and always gets off-piste no matter what I try ! But here's the snag, lifting very little from Nietzsche, Kierkegaard and Marx (without the superman Darwinian survival of the fittest, or the 'science of dialectical materialism, Capitalism itself is in crisis, and having to be compelled to be made accountable by God and answer for decisions we make according to our own existential Art struggle to transcend and collide into a surreal outcome of originality). Yes Painters experience existential 'crisis', require enough courage to enter catharsis and be able to make oneself utterly exposed to justify decisions made and individually extract your self and break your modus operandi rules and routine etc. ! The outcome ? Freedom, but only a fleeting experience. You are lucky and chosen, yet, you are unique but not a superior being or part of an elite-you are a survivor and not a grazer , someone who has enjoyed elements of self-conquest - apart from that you are more than the useful idiots that. follow the herd , and you are engaged in struggle, not anything like 'state of the Art epoch glory hunters who fashionably indulge in tech!! You are in situ to self-transform.
